Description
When William Harry Tietkens died at he age of 89 years in 1933 he was described as the last of the old school of Australian explorers. At various times he was a stockman, surveyor and on two occasions was second n command of expeditions under the famous explorer Ernest Giles, including the fourth expedition from Beltana in South Australia to Perth. He also led an expedition on his own through Central Australia and was involved in sinking wells north of the Nullarbor Plain in an endeavour to open up this vast area of grazing.
